In Canberra, the National Press Club is recognised as the thinking person’s social venue. Each Thursday and Friday night we feature some of Australia’s best live music for members and their guests.

Thursday Night features Boogie and Blues with the best local, national and even international acts.  World class entertainment from highly-regarded acts such as Geoff Achison, Loyd Spiegel, Spectrum, Fiona Boyes and Annie Piper plus local favorites Mama Blooz House, Glen Terry Project, Annie and the Armadillos to name a few.

Friday Night the mood changes slightly and it is smooth jazz, grooves and a touch of disco when we showwcase Canberra's top acts in our sophisticated lounge bar.  Annie and the Armadillos, Funky Fedoras, DJ and the Karismakatz and Palermo Express are all regulars and will welcome the weekend with elegant style.

Australian Music Royalty!


Remember the hit "I'll be gone" with the famous lyrics lead in by the iconic blues harp of Mike Rudd.... "someday l'll have money.... money isn't easy to come by..." Spectrum is one our favourite Australian bands. In the 70's they were in the vanguard of progressive rock in Australia, and they left a legacy of innovative and imaginative music. The Band went through many morphes... into the Indeliable Murtceps, Ariel, Mike Rudd and the Heaters.... Today Spectrum has reformed as a one of the tightest trios and good time music bands you can enjoy! Harp, Guitar, Drums and the voices!
From light instrumentals to the most driving and inspiring rock songs, this band has the tightest rhythmn section we've heard for a long time... Featuring the wonderful musicality and talents of founders Mike Rudd and Bill Putt with Robbo on drums... They put on a great show!

Swing dance fun!


New Act

Queen Juanita & The Zydeco Cowboys are a 4 piece zydeco swing dance band featuring Queen Juanita on vocals and piano accordian and Dr Zot on guitar. The band celebrates the exquisite melting pot of sounds of Louisiana covering zydeco, Rockabilly, Cajun, Swing Blues and Jazz, Creole and Western Swing
The band members are; (Queen) Juanita Cucinotta (lead vocals, piano accordian and acoustic guitar). Juanita has a background in jazz, roots, blues and country and has been performing for the last 15 years both in Sydney where she played keyboards with her jazz combo Two Steps to Heaven, and in Canberra where she was the keyboard player and backin/lead vocals for local band, The Business. From 2002, Juanita performed in the popular Canberra vocal trio The Blues Cowgirls, singing lead and backing vocals, acoustic guitar and piano accordian. She also currently performs with with local alternative country band, The Rodeo Clowns.


Ian 'Dr Zot' Steklik (guitar and vocals). Dr Zot is an accomplished singer/songwriter and finger-style guitar player, exploring the acoustic blues, roots and folk traditions of the 1920's to the current form. He has been playing guitar since his teens and his passion for the guitar is witnessed through the many workshops and displays he has presented over the years at various festivals throughout Australia. Ian is also a member of Canberra's other Zydeco band, Allez-Gator and he leads his own acoustic roots and blues band, Dr Zot and the Rhythm Project.
Brian Taylor (Upright Bass). Brian was a founding member of the legendary blues band, Blind Freddy and he has played on the same stages as the mighty Albert King, Junior Wells and Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers. A member of the renowned Chicago jump blues band The Groove Kings, Brian is a winner of the Canberra Blues Society's 'Best Bass Player' award.


John 'Murv' Cowell (Drums and percussion). John has been drumming for over 30 years in a wide variety of combos around eastern Australia. He was a founding member of the outrageous Mullamatics and Kid Vegemite bands of the early 80's and spent many years laying down the beat for Sydney bands such as Squeeze and Buster Bondi. Since coming to Canberra, John has played in many Canberra outfits.

Janet Levy is Ms Sax of the Blues! From Cool Jazz through Jumpin’ Swings, Rockin’ Blues, some old favorites and funky grooves, this act will have the audience grooving all night long.Although a relatively new formation, the Good Intentions, draws on a wealth of musical experience.From duo to five-piece their repertoire includes well-known music from Jazz & Blues to Juke Box Favorites with styles and material suitable for most age groups and social occasions. Fronted by pocket dynamo, Janet Levy, this band is unique. With her sultry deep vocals and distinctive Sax style, she leads the band and audience through an evening of high energy and infectious fun.

Guitar based blues with passion and fun!


Dan Granero is an Australian Lead Guitarist/Vocalist who started learning and experimenting with guitar & bass at the age of 3 years old.
He is self-taught by ear and feel on guitar, bass, drums, vocals and song-writing.

Dan grew up listening to a wide range of music styles like, Classical, Spanish Flamenco, Soul, Rock, Blues, Roots, Reggae and Gospel. He has over 18yrs of experience performing and recording nation-wide.

Dan Granero is an energetic Blues/Rock musician.
His Passion for music and life is echoed in his performances. Every emotion he feels gets transfered from his soul through to his hands and onto the fretboard of his trademark Fender Stratocaster. Influences such as; Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton and ZZ Top can certainly be heard in his original music, however, Dan Granero is unique in his own right.

Talented Lisa McClelland is a popular vocalist on the Canberra scene with a wealth of experience from musicals through to cabaret and commercial music. Formerly of big corporate band 'Sweet Mischief', Darkside Divas and Lady L, she steps out to deliver her favourite takes on many popular tunes. Great voice and on stage presence, her band is made up of keyboards, double bass and drums.
