2010 Winners announced!  Judges notes:
* Category 1- Photography - 'Talk to the Lens - Single Photo Entry' - Winner: Glen McCurtayne 'Rudd Tear'

Comments -  The judges considered there were a number of outstanding entries in this category but ultimately chose this photo of former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. The picture captured a moment in history as the deposed Prime Minister shed a tear at his farewell press conference, conjuring up a sense of defeat and revealing a sense of frailty rarely seen by most Australians during his term as Labor Party leader.

* Category 1 - Photography - 'Talk to the Lens - photo essay/folio entry' - Winner: Ray Strange  “WINNING HEARTS AND MINDS”

Comments - The judges found this the most difficult category from which to select a winner. Indeed, we decided it would be appropriate to tighten the criteria next year to assist in the selection process. We were required, nonetheless, to select a winner. The winning entry graphically portrayed Tony Abbott's personality in a range of situations from serious career politician to the madcap larrikin lurking just below the surface.

* Category 2 - TV Camera - 'The shot that made the yarn' - Winner: Matt Roberts  'The Crossover'
SPECIAL COMMENDATION  Mark Jessop 'The Minder'

Comments - Again, this was a difficult decision, so much so that the judges decided to declare both a winner and a runner-up because there was so little to separate the two top entries. The runner-up was the entry showing an increasingly agitated minder at Andrew Robb's May Budget reply press conference. While many cameraman may have simply shot a range of different cutaways, the cameraman showed considerable political instinct to remain focussed on the Opposition staff member and, in the process, captured some brilliant footage. However, the judges felt that the "crossover" footage showing Peter Garret waiting in the wings to follow Tony Abbott on ABC radio was the winner. While this sort of crossover footage is often shot, this not only captured all the key moments in the process but was also judged to be the shot that was used most powerfully to "make the yarn".

* Category 3 - TV Editing - 'The kindest cut of all' - Winner: Nathaniel Harding 'Stick Together'

Comments - The judges considered this to be an outstanding example of video editing, telling the story of the decision by the (majority of) independents to support Labor and break the political deadlock following the election. The fact that it managed to tell that story so effectively with no accompanying commentary other than natural sound bites was considered by the judges to make it a stand-out choice despite the excellence of the other entries in this category.
