Senator Bob Brown

Recent Speaker

Leader of the Greens Party

June 29, 2011

11.30am - 1.30pm

“The Green Dividend”

Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown celebrates 25 years as a parliamentarian, leading the Greens from strength to strength.

More than 1.6 million Australians voted for the Greens in 2010, building on the success of 2007 when five Australian Greens’ members were elected and achieved full political party status in the parliament.  The six current Australian Greens MPs - Bob Brown, Christine Milne, Rachel Siewert, Scott Ludlam, Sarah Hanson-Young  and Adam Bandt - will soon be joined by senators-elect Larissa Waters, Lee Rhiannon, Penny Wright and Richard di Natale, providing federal Greens representation in all states and the lower house for the first time.

In 2007, the new make-up of the Senate put the Australian Greens into shared balance of power with two independents. In 2010, when voters rejected a parliament dominated by the two largest parties, the Australian Greens won the balance of power in their own right in the Senate – effective from 1 July, 2011 – and already share balance of power in the House of Representatives with the crossbenchers.

Join Senator Brown to share his vision for the present, the future, and for Australia.
