"What price cheaper books" DEBATE
Professor Allan Fels, AO is Dean of the Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG). This is a new institution established by the governments of Australia, New Zealand, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, and ten universities and business schools. It provides senior management development programs, including an Executive Master of Public Administration program, for high level public sector managers.
Professor Allan Fels was Chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission from 1995 until 30 June 2003. Prior to that he was Chairman of the Trade Practices Commission from 1991 to 1995 and Chairman of the Prices Surveillance Authority from 1989 to 1992.
Professor Allan Fels was previously Dean of the Graduate School of Management of Monash University. He was appointed a Professor of Administration at Monash University in 1984. He has been an Honorary Professor in the Faculty of Economics and Business at Monash University since 1996 and is now also Professorial Fellow in the Department of Political Science at the University of Melbourne.
Louise Adler is the CEO & Publisher-in-Chief of Melbourne University Publishing. Adler has served as a member of the Monash University Council for over a decade now. She is also a member of the Board of the Melbourne International Arts Festival, the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art and The Monash University Museum of Art.
Her academic career includes teaching roles in the English and Comparative Literature department at Columbia University and the University of Melbourne. In 1988 she became the editor of Australian Book Review. From 1989 until 1994 Louise Adler was Publishing Director of Reed Books Australia. In 1994 she became the Arts & Entertainment Editor for The Age. In 1996 she joined the ABC’s Radio National as the presenter of Arts Today. In 1999 Louise Adler was appointed the inaugural Deputy Director (Academic & Research) at the Victorian College of the Arts. Her contribution to Australia’s literary culture was acknowledged in the 2008 Australia Day Honours list with an AM.
