"Trust and relevance – defining the modern ABC"
Appointed Managing Director of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on July 5, 2006 and reappointed in October 2010 for a second five-year term beginning in July 2011.
Under his leadership, the ABC has dramatically expanded its services and its reach and now operates on an annual budget of over $1 billion.
Operating on the principle that media organisations must adapt or falter in an era of massive technological change, Mr Scott has transformed the structure and operation of the ABC.
The ABC now provides quality news, information, entertainment and other content across an expanding array of platforms: four television channels; new digital radio channels to complement the four national and 60 local services; an elaborate online operation and customised material for mobile and other new media devices.
The ABC possesses Australia’s best newsroom resources and is responsible for the international work of Radio Australia and Australia Network.
In July 2010, the ABC launched Australia’s first free-to-air continuous news channel, ABC News 24.
The managing director has championed the shift inside the ABC from a process-based culture to one that emphasises the values of Respect, Integrity, Collegiality and Innovation.
