Scott Morrison MP
Shadow Minister Immigratio
March 30, 2011
Population challenges for the Liberal 3.0 generation
Population dynamics represent one of the biggest policy challenges that will confront the new generation of MPs on either side of politics for their entire parliamentary life. Shadow Population and Immigration Minister Scott Morrison will outline what the big shifts in population flows will mean for Australia and how the Coalition will address these challenges for our labour market needs and to achieve social cohesion, consistent with time honoured liberal principles from the Menzies and Howard generations.
As a member of the Coalition’s frontbench Scott has taken a leadership role in the national debates
and policy that have resonance in the Shire of
Cook.
As Shadow Cabinet Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Scott has led calls to restore the Howard Government’s strong border protection regime and has put sustainable population growth on the national agenda.
As Shadow Minister for Housing, Scott campaigned to increase the supply of residential housing in our major cities to improve housing affordability.
As Shadow Minister for Local Government and Infrastructure Scott called for councils to be given more recognition and accountability for services and infrastructure local communities, like ours, depend on.
As well as his work on local issues, Scott has been active in a series of parliamentary committees that have reported on support for carers, housing, electoral reform, productivity, interest rates and monetary policy.
In parliament Scott has also stood up on issues such as:
- supporting the millennium development goals and opposing the removal of bans on Australian aid funding support for abortion
- supporting the Northern Territory intervention
- speaking against oppression in Zimbabwe, the Sudan and of Coptic Orthodox Christians in Egypt
- arguing for the protection of marriage
- acknowledging Australians who served as KIAPS in the PNG prior to 1975.
Scott’s greatest delight has been to welcome students from our Shire schools to Parliament House and see our future leaders show such a strong interest in our democracy.
