The Hon Josh Frydenberg MP

Treasurer of Australia
Paving a path towards reform and recovery

Tuesday, 5 May 2020

As the global and domestic economy comes to terms with the economic impact of the coronavirus the Treasurer will address the National Press Club on the challenges and opportunities ahead.

The Australian economy is experiencing the sharpest contraction not seen since the Great Depression, with jobless queues growing at a rapid rate because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Thousands of businesses have no choice but to shutdown due to restrictions to curb the virus, and have had to stand down millions of workers as a consequence - expectations are, Australia's unemployment rate will hit 10 per cent by June.

With the federal government and the Reserve Bank both taking unprecedented action to stem the damage, the Federal Treasurer, Josh Frydenberg, will deliver a special National Press Club address outlining the government's thinking on the way ahead.

This special Address is subject to COVID-19 protocols and as such is not an open event for members or the public.

The ACT Government has provided the National Press Club an approval for the continuation of our broadcast events subject to conditions.

Broadcast details:
Live on the ABC & Sky at 12:30pm, Tuesday 5 May 2020.
