Catherine King has represented the federal seat of Ballarat since 2001.

She served as Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing in the Gillard government and was elevated to Cabinet – in the role of Minister for Regional Services – by Kevin Rudd in 2013.

She was appointed Shadow Minister for Health and Medicare in October 2013 and has held the portfolio ever since – making her Australia’s longest-serving federal shadow health minister.

Ms King has a background in social work and health policy. She served in senior roles at the Commonwealth Department of Health and as a senior manager at KPMG’s Health Consulting Practice.

She holds a Degree in Social Work and a Masters in Public Policy from the Australian National University and has recently completed a law degree from Deakin University.

This is her first National Press Club address.
