John Bell chairs an Australian Council of Learned Academies (ACOLA) Expert Working Group that has just completed a report for the Prime Minister’s Science, Engineering and Innovation Council on the contribution of innovation to productivity and economic growth.

John is a Senior Associate with ACIL Allen Consulting. He is also a Senior Policy Adviser to the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. John has successfully designed, managed and evaluated Government research and innovation programs. He has held senior positions with the Australian Government, including Deputy Secretary and Chief Science Adviser in what is now the Department of Industry. John’s international experience covers more than seven years working with the OECD in Paris, including four as Head of the OECD’s Division responsible for policy analysis in science, technology and innovation. He received a Centenary of Federation medal for his strategic contribution to research and development in Australia.
