George Wright is the National Secretary of the Australian Labor Party.

George grew up in a Labor family in outer suburban Melbourne and has been a rank and file member of the Labor Party throughout his adult life.

As well as working in the private sector and for a number of Australian trade unions including the Finance Sector Union and the Liquor Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers Unions (now United Voice), George was previously Director of Policy and Communications at the Australian Council of Trade Unions.

At the ACTU George worked on the labour movement’s successful campaign against the Howard Government’s WorkChoices industrial relations laws and the struggle to win fair compensation for victims of asbestos diseases.

George also worked as a Press Secretary to The Prime Minister in the Rudd Labor Government. In his role of National Secretary George is responsible for the over-all operations of the ALP National Secretariat.

He has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Melbourne.

George is married and has a daughter in primary school.
