Chris Bowen was first elected to Federal Parliament as the member for Prospect in 2004 (since the 2010 election the electorate has been known as McMahon).

When Labor was in office, Chris served in a number of portfolios including: Minister for Financial Services, Superannuation and Corporate Law, Minister for Human Services, Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, Science and Research, and, prior to the election, as Treasurer.

Chris has worked and delivered on a number areas during his Ministerial service, including:
o    Increasing the Super Guarantee from 9 to 12 per cent
o    Criminalising cartel conduct
o    Reforming the supervision of Australia’s financial markets
o    Liberalising laws in the supermarket sector to open up to foreign competition
o    Commissioning and acting on the Knight review into student visa regime

He holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney.  Prior to entering Parliament he served on the Fairfield City Council, and was Mayor for 1998 and 1999.
Chris currently lives with his family in Smithfield.
